September 4, 2022 PRESS RELEASE
Registration is now open for the 2022-2023 curling season at the Quinte Curling Club (QCC). QCC President Sheri-Lynn Collyer explained, “Last year we curled almost the complete season while managing COVID protocols. This year, we have plans for a full schedule both in leagues and bonspiels.”
QCC offers play for novice and experienced curlers in men’s, women’s, mixed and open formats in the morning, afternoon and evening. Information will be available at an OPEN HOUSE/WELCOME BACK BBQ on Thursday, September 8, 5 pm where league convenors will be on hand to answer questions for both members and potential curlers. League details are also available on the Club website.
New for 2022-2023 is the offer of a seven-week session of doubles curling for members and non-members. This format will appeal to those whose schedule needs a shorter game or to snowbirds who are not in town for the whole winter.
Ice preparation will start in mid-September so members can practice in early October. League play will start right after Thanksgiving. Learn-to-Curl will start in early November.
All curlers are invited to visit the QCC website at quintecurlingclub.ca to register online. The online registration process is easy to use, but for those without computer access, QCC Business Coordinator Julie McKellar can take registrations over the phone on Wednesdays.
The Quinte Curling Club (QCC) is a non-profit organization, providing opportunities for curling and social interaction within the Quinte area, while taking an active role in the development of new curlers and the promotion of the game.
It was founded as The Belleville Curling Club in 1867 and was very active through to the 1920’s when the original George Street building fell into disrepair. It wasn’t until the 1950’s that interest in curling was rekindled, resulting in the construction of the current Bridge Street West building. Only COVID-19 has caused a disruption in play since the inaugural game on February 15, 1958.
Members range from novice players to competitive teams at the regional, provincial and even national levels. Governed by a volunteer board of directors, the Club has over 300 members who come from all walks of life and all age groups. More information can be found at the Club’s website: https://quintecurlingclub.ca/.
